Charlotte Doyle Response Questions-Periods 2, 6, and 8

1. We've read enough about Charlotte Doyle through chapter five to know some of her characteristics, traits, etc. We've also discussed how Charlotte was similar to Anne Frank. Describe for me two ways that Charlotte Doyle and Anne Frank are similar and two ways that the two are different. Please respond in complete sentences.

EAGLE CAFE

Eagle Cafe is a "mandatory opportunity" for students who do not have their homework assignment completed and in the classroom to hand in to their teacher at the time it is collected. Eagle Cafe is held during a student's Lunch/Home Base time, which is an hour block of time in the middle of the student's day.

Purpose of Eagle Cafe: To ensure students are completing the needed practice to reinforce their learning and provide time for students to complete the assignment if they did not do so. To reinforce the responsibility of time management, self-management, and organization needed to complete assignments in a timely manner and have them ready to turn in to the teacher when asked.

Process:

When a student does not have a homework assignment completed the FIRST time for a class:

1. The student will be informed he/she will be assigned to the Eagle Cafe the following school day.

2. The student will receive a pass the class period before he/she is expected to be at Eagle Cafe.

3. The student will be allowed to leave a few minutes early to get lunch, then go to the room assigned for Eagle Cafe.

4. The student is expected to take the materials/books needed to complete the assignment during the Eagle Cafe or to take a book or other work, as needed.

5. The student will turn the completed assignment in to the supervisor of the Cafe when leaving. The supervisor will give the work to the appropriate teacher.

IF the student does not have the assignment completed, they will return to the Eagle Cafe until the assignment is completed.

When a student does not have a homework assignment completed a SECOND time for a class:

1. Eagle Cafe is assigned.

2. The teacher will inform the student that they have a 30-minute detention after school with that teacher.

3. A phone call will be made to the parent to arrange for the detention at the first night possible (preferably that day or the next day).

When a student does not have a homework assignment completed a THIRD or more time for a class:

1. The teacher will write up a formal discipline referral to the main office and the student will see Mr. Harrington or Mrs. Hofmann for problem solving and consequences.

2. Parents will be called.
